Dadra & Nagar Haveli is a Union territory located in the Western part of India and is close to the states of Gujarat and Maharashtra. The capital city of Dadra and Nagar Haveli is Silvassa, a rather popular tourist destination. Dadra & Nagar Haveli has been chosen as one of the Union Territories for the Power for All Programme run by the Government of India, with the objective to supply 24x7 uninterrupted power to all the category of consumers in the territory. It is interesting to note that Dadra & Nagar Haveli has the highest per capita power consumption in the country at 13,769 units as per FY 2015 against the national average of 1010 units. The primary reason behind this huge difference is that 97% of the power consumption in Dadra & Nagar Haveli is from the industries in the area. The UT has already planned to setup or procure 94.27MW solar energy and will be investing Rs 126.39 crores in order to generate this. Dadra & Nagar Haveli has got a target to install 449MW of solar capacity by the year 2022 as a part of the 100GW target of 2022. So far only, .60MW has been commissioned in 2017. Due to the small size of the Union Territory, the UT can setup PPA agreements with solar plants outside in order to achieve the target of 449MW that has been set.
