Manipur Solar Policy and it's Solar Highlights

Manipur is located in the northeastern part of India and is neighbours with states like Nagaland, Mizoram and Assam. The capital of Manipur is Imphal and the state has one of the lowest commissioned solar energy at just .01MW, which too has come in the Financial Year 2016/17. MNRE has allocated 105MW of grid-connected solar power to Manipur as a part of the 100GW National solar mission but that target looks to be really steep as of now. Out of this 105MW, 50MW has been assigned to rooftop solar plants and another 55MW from the ground mounted plants. Manipur adopted the "MANIPUR GRID INTERACTIVE ROOFTOP SOLAR PHOTOVOLTAIC (SPV) POWER POLICY" in 2014 in order to encourage the installation in all the segments: residential, industrial and commercial. MNRE has also provided up to 70% subsidy against the benchmark cost of 75K per kilowatt to institutional, residential and non-profit establishments. Net Metering laws have been formulated and put in place and the state government has been taking several key steps including planning for newer rooftop plant sin order to push rooftop solar in Manipur. The state has a great potential for solar with easily 280-300 sunny days and there is no reason why Manipur cannot contribute towards the big solar mission that India is chasing.
