Tripura Solar Policy and it's Solar Highlights

Tripura is located in the North Eastern part of India and is one of the smallest states in the country. The capital city of Tripura is Agartala and is heavily covered by forests. Despite a rather challenging geography and extreme downpours in monsoon, Tripura has about 5MW of commissioned solar energy. As far as back in 2012, the state had about 45 remote villages and 797 establishments receiving power from the solar power plants. Due to the geographical challenges, solar is slowly emerging as the perfect solution for the state in its ai to provide power for all. In 2014, 45KW solar PV plant was setup in a multi storied market as a pilot to showcase the capability of converting Agartala into a smart solar city. Since then a 5MW solar plant has been commissioned which supplies power to the Tripura Power Grid. although the progress in the last financial year 2016/17 has been very slow. The state is targeting to ensure a 28MW solar capacity by the end of Financial Year 2018/19. As a part of this aim, 21MW of grid connected power is to be added from solar rooftop installations, with the target for the same standing at 6MW for the Financial year 17/18. A total of INR 140 crores has been requested from the centre to help achieve this figure of 28MW.
